HIEROMONK CRUSTACEAN USA Quaker Quaker Advaita Vedanta 1/18/06 2/17/06, 11:50:35
NAMASTE! I am a writer and spiritual agitator/Perennialist heretic. Specifically I consider myself a Vedanta-influenced Zen Quaker with Messianic inclinations and a Sufi sense of humor. But that's not important. The reason I am here (as opposed to "there," I suppose) is to elevate the mystical wing of the buildings that house all individual Faiths, for it is in this wing that we find the bridge to Metatheology: that level of spiritual practice where all religions make direct, immediate contact with the Divine One. It is the way taught by all universal sages --including Jesus Christ, if you read carefully and sometimes between the lines-- and the only way beyond the politcal realm, where human conflict fueled by 6 billion competing "I am"s is inevitable. I hope that my involvement with UCS will lead to opportunities to be of greater service to this cause, both through proliferation of my own work and the elevation of others'. If you happen to be a writer working with similar themes, I am always in search of new collaborative voices with which to share cyberspace and/or life experience (or if you happen to be in the Philadelphia area, an interactive writers' group and/or occasional mixed drink). Please don't hesitate to contact me if any of the above interests you. hermitcrab@foow.org Love is the Way--God is the Truth--YOU are the Life...

I am a Quaker with a close interest in Islam, Aurobindo, Gurdjieff, Joel Goldsmith, the Peace Pilgrim and interfaith developments. I used to be a Headteacher of a large, mostly Muslim school. I am currently deeply involved in the peace movement, organising a huge Peace Fair to show young people that planning for peace is a happy activity. When I make time, I am writing a book "17 Ways to develop my inner strength" a course of self-education for young people.Currently I am preparing a local inter- and intra- faith pairing project....

BRIDGET BAILLIE England Quaker Non-violence Buddhist 4/27/02
I'm 67, a mother, grandmother, twice married, a Quaker wholeheartedly, a Congreagationalist less wholeheartedly, for reasons of geography. I am fascinated by religious and philosophical ideas, but do try to relate them to how I live. For many years now I have been pre-occupied with environmental issues and often fall into temporary despair at the way in which so many people refuse to think about these issues. This is often true of churches, though much less so of Quakers. I also raise these issues in my parish council, where I'm a member. Religious intolerance and lack of understanding is another strong concern. As a member of a Christian Church I find it quite difficult to cope with the ideas of most Christians that ours is the 'best' religion, rather than one of many ways to God. I'm also aware that I have not solved the problem of how I can be tolerant of views which are themselves intolerant - the age-old liberal dilemma....

SHEILA KELLY Quaker 1/12/01
I am ... how difficult, sometimes, to find a starting place in a circle ... female, over fifty, mother and wife, on a personal passionate ever-changing spiritual journey. I live in a small, rural town with a church on every other corner, where definitions of who we are and what God is has been cut into clay and high-fired into stone shapes of protestantism. With all the churches, one might think there would be a number of beliefs, but they all look alike to me (from the outside looking in, of course). I need spirit friends to share support with, to trade ideas, to listen without making a face or shouting!...

I have worked in areas in publicity and communications in the political arena and now do the same sort of work for a symphony orchestra which has brought my avocation and vocation together.
