When I first began to explore my spirituality as an adult, I addressed the question, "What is meant by calling Jesus, the Son of God?" The question seems simple enough...at first blush. After all, every mainstream Church requires the confession of Jesus as the Son to enter into membership. Nevertheless, the question has led me to question the foundations of the Christian faith.
I have been through personal investigation of the scriptures, college training in Religious Studies, seminary training in an Orthodox Christian institute of the Russian tradition and a decade of service in the social services of the US.
While the search has proved to be of great personal value in understanding the Christian faith tradition, it has also led me to address another very important consideration, "What does the confession of faith in Jesus as the Son mean in terms of interaction with members of other religious faiths?"
I do not presume to assert that I have come up with the final answer to either of these two questions. The search is on-going. It promises to exceed the duration of my life. Nevertheless, it is not only a personal search for truth, it is an investigation that holds social value, ironically enough, in both domestic and international political relations.
It seems that my withdrawal from more "worldly" academic fields of inquiry has led me to, what may be, the most worldly of fields, politics. Religious training appears to promote the core values of most major soc...
